1. Save Petrol and Stay Safe
Keeping your tires at the correct pressure can reduce the amount of petrol you use and improve the handling of your Touring Caravan.
If you’re not sure of the correct tyre pressure then just refer to your caravan’s manual or alternatively contact your local dealer.
2. Spend 20p on your Tyres
Making sure that you have enough tread on your tyres is very important. Having too little tread could be illegal and potentially dangerous when driving.
To check your tread, take a 20p piece and insert it into the tread of your tire, if you can see the outer ring (or border) of the coin then your tread is low and the tire should ideally be replaced. Don’t forget to check your spare tire if you have one.

This sounds obvious, but it’s amazing how many people don’t check their caravan lights regularly. It only takes two minutes and gives you peace of mind in knowing that drivers behind you are aware of what you’re doing.
4. Hot Stuff
Many modern caravans have a number of electric and gas appliances in them. Before and after you travel it is sensible to ensure that they all work, that your batteries are charged and gas bottles full.
Also ensure that your appliances are turned off when the caravan is not in use or when traveling.

5. Be Pure
After returning from your travels it’s good practice to flush out your water and waste water systems to remove any standing water and impurities. Many caravanners also opt to use a chemical solution to clean and sterilize their water systems while doing this.
6. Listen for the Noise
If you start to hear a clunking or grating noise when you pull off, slow down or reverse then it may be that your breaks or reversing mechanism need servicing.
If this is the case then consult a local garage as this sort of work is best left to a qualified mechanic.
