It is important that parcels can be tracked, when an expensive item is put into the delivery network, its whereabouts need to be known at all stages. No one wants to lose a parcel but the more expensive it is the bigger effect losing it will have, people send their parcels through courier so that they don t need to worry about it being lost because it is tracked.

Courier delivery software keeps track of all parcels which enter the system, a hand held device records the information which is then relayed back to the base allowing for customers to be updated and for the information to be recorded securely. Each driver will have a handset and will be required to enter the information that the parcel is with them for delivery and they will then have to enter the information that the parcel has been delivered.

A parcel will be recorded when it enters the system and all the required information will be logged, each different point of action will then be recorded to ensure that the parcel is on the right tracks to get to its destination. Each parcel is recorded as it is loaded for delivery to ensure that it is with the correct driver and this also shows that it has not been lost at all.

Each system has GPS tracking which allows the base to know which location each driver is in at any given time, this means that if any changes are required such as an urgent pick up, the nearest driver can fit it into their route.

Courier delivery software offers a track and trace feature which allows the customer to be updated with the whereabouts of their parcel, with a unique login a customer will be able to view the history of their parcel. Many customers value knowing where their parcel is because by looking online they can discover whether or not the parcel is likely to be delivered that day, if it hasn t been recorded as being out with a driver then they know that they are safe to go out and run errands. Customers want to know where their parcel is at all times and will spend time checking in on it and tracking it once they have been given their login details.

When the customer receives the parcel they will be required to sign for it which will be sent back to the main base to show that the parcel is no longer in the company s hands but has been delivered to the right address. If any issues arise about the parcels whereabouts then the company will be able to show that it was signed for by someone at that address

Recording the whereabouts of the parcel at each stage is very important because it highlights the area where the parcel was last known to be if it happens to go missing and it means that there is no need to retrace the areas where it has already been to. Without tracking a parcel there is no way of knowing where it has ended up because searching the whole system can take a very long time, keeping parcels tracked means that you don t need to check the areas which you know it has been through. You only need to start searching for a parcel from the last logged location.

The software allows for a company to use their resources to the best of their abilities using drivers for deliveries and pickups, along with ensuring that parcels are where they are supposed to be reducing the risk of parcels going missing in the post.
