A wedding day can be the most important and involved day in a brides life. There are countless details to be considered guest lists, decorations, food, location, dates, showersthe list goes on and on. Among the most significant of these many decisions is the choice of the wedding dress. Most young girls dream of their wedding day as an occasion pulled from the pages of a fairy tale, with their dress being the centerpiece. While the dreams of a girl may serve as the basis for their choice of wedding gown, there a number of factors that must be taken into consideration before finding the perfect fit.
Perhaps one of the biggest restrictions a bride can face is the budget allotted for wedding garb. Big dreams can be hard to acquire on a small budget. The ceiling on price is seemingly limitless, as designers and boutiques work to cater to high-end clients with deep pockets. However, many brides (as well as their families) are willing to dig deep into their wallets for the perfect gown. For those trying to work within a firm price range, it is wise to investigate special sales and offers as wells as staying open to the idea of buying a dress second-hand.
Obviously, a woman wants to look beautiful on her wedding day. The modern bride comes in all shapes and sizes, and beauty is most certainly in the eye of the beholder. Matters of style and modesty vary widely based on individual taste, but it is always in the best interest of the bride to be honest with herself about what works best. Any bridal consultant worth her salt will provide truthful, gentle feedback, allowing a bride to find the perfect combination of style and fit best suited to her needs. While the decision is ultimately up to the bride, her friends and family should support whatever decision she makes, and the lady of the hour may need encouragement to explore possibilities outside of her initial expectations for her dress.
It is important to remember that personal preference in the choice of wedding apparel can also be heavily influenced by the cultural or religious aspects of the ceremony. Many faiths maintain strict guidelines or traditional practices when it comes to a brides dress. Some conservative faiths have modesty requirements, while many Eastern practices vary greatly from the Western image of the bride in a white gown. In the case of inter-faith and inter-cultural unions, many brides may choose to adopt the garb of the culture they are marrying into. For instance, a Christian bride may choose to wear the traditional red sari of her grooms Hindu heritage, or vice-versa. On a less serious note, an outdoor wedding may necessitate a lighter, less cumbersome dress than an elaborate indoor church ceremony.
The proper wedding dress can serve as the perfect frame for a beautiful bride. Choosing an appropriate gown can be both stressful and exciting, as decisions (and occasionally sacrifices) must be made. Ultimately, the happiness of the bride-to-be is the most important. It is her day to shine, and the perfect dress will help make her wedding day impossible to forget.
